RETREAT DESCRIPTION
El Salvador is a rising star in the global surf scene, known for its warm water, consistent Pacific swells, and uncrowded breaks. Legendary spots like El Sunzal, La Bocana, Punta Roca, and Punta Mango attract surfers year-round with their powerful point breaks and clean barrels. Whether you’re a beginner catching your first wave at El Tunco or an advanced surfer chasing fast rights at Punta Mango, the country's 300 km coastline delivers.
Beyond the waves, El Salvador offers a vibrant mix of indigenous traditions, colorful murals, volcano hikes, pupusas (stuffed corn tortillas), and a laid-back, welcoming vibe. Many surf towns double as cultural hubs combining beach life with local food, music, and art.
El Salvador’s surf tourism helped spark a national rebranding effort called “Surf City”, aiming to transform the economy through sustainable tourism and international surf events like the ISA World Surfing Games.
Playa Mango (Punta Mango)
Located on the eastern coast in Usulután department, Punta Mango (also known as Playa Mango) is more remote and had been reached only by boat until recent road improvements
Playa El Tunco
Located in the La Libertad department, about 35–40 km from San Salvador international airport, this beach is famous for its volcanic black sand and a distinctive rock formation shaped like a pig—hence the name “El Tunco”.
It’s one of El Salvador’s prime surf destinations with consistent right‐ and left‑hand breaks like La Bocana, El Sunzal, El Sunzalito, and La Bocanita. Waves range from gentle longboard-friendly lines to faster tubers for more experienced surfers
